His Passion for Photography

Scottish Travel & Drone Photographer :   James Wyllie, Specializes  in  Landscape, Seascape and Natural Scenery. Though his subjects are widely varied his photographic forte is also Scottish wildlife in it’s natural habitat.
James is also a registered Drone Pilot Operator (Certified by the UK Civil Aviation Authority) here in the UK.

He was brought up in ‘Giffnock’  which is situated south of Glasgow. James's, journey into photography began at the young age of '7-years old' when he received his first camera (Kodak Instamatic X77) for his Christmas in 1976

Within the summer of '1978' he grew well fond of his first camera & was attempting to photograph Aviemore (Cairngorms National Park), Stonehaven, and the surrounding  area in Aberdeenshire, while on holiday with his parents.

As a child James, would spend most of his weekends on the grounds of Culzean Castle, caravanning with his mother & father. This is where he practiced with his camera & perfected his skills as a young upcoming photographer (composition and playing with natural light). James, kept exploring the surrounding area each weekend in great detail. He searched high and low for compositions everyday & even though it was just a rock or tree he practiced on it was all worth while. One of his main objectives was to  capture wildlife in it’s natural environment & also seascapes along the Ayrshire coastline in  all of it's weathers. This can be very challenging at the best of times here in Scotland.

He knew at this point that the weather plays a huge part in  photography. He learned that he could tell a story through his lens & put it on paper for others to see & enjoy. This made him feel exuberant & wanted to learn more & more. Working with the natural light in the field was challenging at the best of times at such a young age, especially with poor outdoor clothing and equipment at that time. He set challenges for himself daily, especially in manual mode learning all by himself.

James's youthful love & addiction of photography has continued into adulthood. His first job after leaving school / Collage at the age of 18-years, took him to 'Dixons Camera Store' on Union Street in Glasgow, city centre. This is where he gained his knowledge and expertise with the more professional end of the camera market. He eventually bought  his first "35mm Minolta Dynax 5000i" camera which took him onto another level in photography, with his better  upgraded camera.

Everything was about reading books/magazines on photography and also being even more active with his camera, especially in manual mode. This was needed to progress forward in taking better clearer Images at a more  Professional  level.

To this day his love of photography, has taken him all over the Scottish countryside, even with his loyal border collie's by his side. They've explored on foot in photos and trekked the Scottish Highlands in great detail to capture that special untaken image. Glencoe, Glen Affric in Sutherland, as well as many other breathtaking locations across the United Kingdom, like the Isle of Skye, the Outer Hebrides, the Scottish Borders and south of that the beautiful Lake District.

James, has had over 60 + photos printed in the  'Evening Times' (Glasgow News Paper) over the last few years and has also had three full middle page spreads  on his 'Scottish landscape photography.'

Also one of his Border Collie's 'Mr Sam' has also taken centre stage on "Scottish Television” (STV) website with his photo "Watching The Sun Go Down" as one of the best monthly photographs of 2018!

James was also a photographer with 'Scottish Power Electrical Superstores' in the 90's. This is where he  photographed electrical goods and floor displays in-store for promotional leaflets and magazines for the company.
